The Daybreakers Support Project Read
Project Read was started by Greenway Schools more than ten years ago. It focused on helping parents and grandparents understand the value and importance of reading to infants and young children.
-
Reading skills provide a foundation for school success in general, and with it, for developing self-confidence, resourcefulness, communication and problem-solving skills, reliability and a strong work ethic.
-
Children need to be reading well by 3rd grade to keep up with the demands of the classroom and develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes we want them to have.
-
Especially from birth to age 3, children's brains go through an intense period of development that affects later reading ability.

Greenway Project Read Carnival
May 2009
Greenway Schools held it's 12th Annual Project Read Carnival on May 28, 2009, and the Kiwanis Daybreakers were there to help. Seven members of the club showed up to help set up the carnnival, serve dinner, run games and events, take photos and help clean up afterwards.
There were about 100 childern in attendance and all of the books that were donated by our club were given away to the kids. We served almost 200 hotdog dinners, and had lots of fun.
